Redken Symposium 2024

At My Father’s Mustache, we are always trying to better ourselves in this incredible industry! The best and most involved way of doing this is education, education, EDUCATION!

The last weekend of June we attended the Redken Symposium in Nashville!

There are several different types of hair shows all around the globe. The main themes in these hair shows are education, trends, and merchandise. The Redken Symposium combines all three of these elements, which is no easy task! The main focus of the Symposium is power education, and we all walked away feeling inspired and ready to tackle all of the new summer trends! We attended eighteen classes within two days, and ALL topics were discussed. We had classes for color, blondes, formulation, cutting, trends, and so so much more! This type of education is at the core of Redken. “From iconic formulas to hands-on education, our mission is to provide stylists and consumers with the tools they need to level up their looks and/or careers. Science is at the core of every single move we make, balanced by the support of our insanely talented Redken Artists. Our message is simple: Powered by Science. Prescribed by Pros.” As a Redken Black Elite Level Salon, we take our education very seriously. In return we get the incredible knowledge and tools to be able to achieve stunning results and satisfied, loyal guests.

These classes are not just for teaching new techniques and applications, they are also to make Redken Stylists feel lifted up, supported, and inspired. One of my personal favorite demonstrations was from Sam Villa; while he was discussing new trends and styles - he was also providing a second wind for stylists who may not feel seen or heard in this HUGE, but incredible industry we are in. It’s easy for anyone to feel worn down or tired, but a huge blessing that we as stylists have is that our jobs are always evolving and changing. This doesn’t mean by any means that what we do is easy, we may have mastered the way we do the physical aspect of our job - but the emotional and mental aspect is also always evolving and changing. If you think about it, barbers and stylists alike are around for some of the most important moments in your life! Birthdays, parties, pictures, weddings, and even funerals. All of this to say, it may not always be easy. We may have days that are challenging and even draining; but a majority of us wouldn’t change a thing about our careers. I personally love what I get to do, and I will gladly take the bad or sad days with all of the incredibly rewarding and great days.
